February/March 2012

Our Mission:  Enable each child to reach maximum potential by providing residents with a safe environment, a range of creative educational, developmental and recreational programs, nurturing individuality, character and community while preparing each child for onward challenges and success, whether they involve university education, vocational training, or gainful employment.

Dear Friends,
Aziza’s Place celebrated its fifth anniversary on February 14th with all of AP’s resident children energetically celebrating the occasion, beginning in the afternoon and continuing well into the evening.  In typical AP style,  music, games and plenty of food to share were all part of the festivities!  The past five years have been a period of achievement and growth for Aziza’s Place residents, all of whom have found ways to confidentially express their creativity and nurture their talents through AP programs and activities.
In this Courtyard newsletter we introduce 17-year old Rotha who authored the second article describing how AP residents are taking on new responsibility and leadership by taking part in AP staff meetings.  We also highlight the Music Program which is a creative outlet for many of the AP residents who are delighted to continue learning in 2012.
This month the AP staff continued their learning by beginning a new training program, designed specifically for their needs as caregivers.  The intensive training course is an in-depth expansion of previous group training activities which aim to advance each individual staff member and the group as a collective team.
Finally, we introduce and thank Lauren Refaat for her valuable work as a volunteer over the past two months and send our grateful thanks to Mom's Against Poverty (MAP) for their continued support and investment, bettering the lives of the Aziza's Place children and families through funding support for 2012.  Please read on for more detail!

Yours Gratefully,
Aziza's Place
