Intensive Training Course Expands AP Staff Capacity

This month a new round of staff training commenced for the Staff at Aziza's Place, tailored to their needs and expanding on themes they all explored during an intensive training course in early 2011.  The aim of this follow-up program is for Aziza’s Place staff to further develop their competency as effective caregivers – responding to the needs of the children by developing their own self-awareness, using effective communication and relationship-building skills with the children, understanding child development, and implementing effective parenting skills and behavior management techniques.  The first two of the six full training days were held in February with the remaining sessions planned for March and April.
The course is led by Seoung Sothearwat and Yim Sotheary who are both experienced professionals in the area of counseling, training caregivers, and leading team building and group learning activities.  They have worked closely with the Aziza's Place residents and staff for the past eighteen months through previous training programs and through individual and group sessions with the children.  They therefore have an intimate knowledge of the vision and purpose of Aziza's Place, and have brought together their unique perspective to develop a targeted and relevant training program for the Aziza’s Place staff.
The first two sessions were incredibly insightful and practical, with written activities, visual expression, group participation activities, sharing of individual experiences, relating to the context of Aziza’s Place, all creating a space of valuable group learning and team building.  This has created a strong platform for continued learning as the staff complete the training program in the next two months.  We thank Sothearwat and Sotheary for their role in encouraging and enhancing the capacity of the AP staff as we focus on providing a healthy and positive environment for the children of Aziza’s Place.
